Sol's feet are on the ground

It is not hard to imagine what a Premiership footballer would do with over £100,000 a week - the sum Sol Campbell has reportedly demanded to stay at White Hart Lane. It would be all fast cars, clothes, expensive restaurants, first-class travel and more cars.

It comes as something of a surprise, then, to discover that the last time Campbell spent £500 in one go was on furniture for his house. Telling ES magazine about his home near Tower Bridge, he said: "It was built in 1965, but it's traditional architecture and I'm doing it up at the moment."

In fact, Stratford-born Campbell seems remarkably restrained for a man whose pay packet is beyond the dreams of most.

Sure, his favourite designers are Giorgio Armani and Ermenegildo Zegna, his favourite shop is Harvey Nichols and he's picked up the tab for friends at The Ivy.

But his favourite restaurant is in Wapping and asked where he would live if money where no object he opts for Hampstead, not the Hamptons or his own Caribbean island.

Campbell likes soul music, watching films on his DVD player and reading Nelson Mandela's autobiography, among other things.
