"It is up to the gaffer when I come back," said Campbell who has the FA Cup semi-final with Blackburn on 16 April in Cardiff in his sights.
"It has been very frustrating and I have had a lot of time to think," he said. "You wonder if you are going to get back before the end of the season. It is great to be out there playing again. That's the main thing. I want to be tackling, heading the ball, working on positional play and you get that with games.
"It has been especially frustrating after last season when I hardly missed a game. This season I have injuries to my ankles, my calf and my Achilles. I have never been 100 per cent all season. Injuries knock your confidence. All season, I just have not been able to get going at all and I don't want this kind of thing next time. I have seen just how important the pre-season training is because I have been playing catch-up. It has taught me a lesson.
"You can't help it if you are injured but that pre-season work helps so much because it gives you a foundation, something to fall back on."

Rio Ferdinand with England. His injury problems have seen him slip down the pecking order behind Chelsea's John Terry.
By making it known he is prepared to go to America, Campbell will have the chance to re-establish himself with his country and prove his commitment to the England team.
He was arguably England's outstandingdefender in Portugal last summer and wants to prove to Eriksson that he is keen to get back into international action.
The match at Barnet's Underhill ground, where Arsenal play all their home reserve matches, saw Arsenal's strong line-up prevail thanks to goals from Robin van Persie, Sebastian Larsson and Jeremie Aliadiere, who struck twice.
