Smith ruled out for rest of the series

Graeme Smith was seen by a specialist in London today after confirmation that an elbow injury will sideline South Africa's captain until the tour of Australia in December.

Smith has been ruled out for the rest of the NatWest international limited-overs series against England - at The Oval tomorrow, at Lord's on Sunday and in Cardiff next Wednesday.

The left-handed opener admitted he was struggling immediately after his team's 10-wicket defeat on Tuesday. All-rounder Jacques Kallis will take over the captaincy.

Despite Smith's absence England skipper Kevin Pietersen is expecting a much tougher contest tomorrow. "They won't do that again," he said after the country of his birth were bowled out for 83 at Trent Bridge to go 2-0 down.

Steve Harmison, meanwhile, has confirmed his availability for all of England's limited-overs matches this winter. But the fast bowler will leave it to the selectors to decide whether he should be a candidate for November's £10million winner-takes-all match in Antigua, having failed to play a Twenty20 game since 2005.
