Rene Higuita, Colombia v Cameroon, 1990

Rene Higuita will forever be associated with the sublime scorpion kick he performed at Wembley in 1995. Nevertheless it shouldn't be forgotten that he was also capable of the ridiculous, exemplified by this howler against Cameroon in 1990.

Massimo Taibi, Manchester United v Southampton, 1999

Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to sign Massimo Taibi proves that even the best managers make mistakes. The Italian made only four appearances for United, but managed to concede 11 goals, including this choice blooper against Southampton.

Peter Enckelman, Birmingham City v Aston Villa, 2002

Poor, poor Peter Enckelman. Not only does he somehow manage to miscontrol a harmless throw-in, but he does it in the white-hot atmosphere of the Second City derby. For a spot of comedy - watch the nice young man who comes out of the crowd to console him.

Roy Carroll, Manchester United v Tottenham, 2005

Managers often complain that they fail to get the 'big decisions' at Old Trafford and Roy Carroll's blunder lends credence to this theory. Even if the referee wasn't totally convinced, surely Carroll's sheepish glance gave the game away.

Once regarded as the best young goalkeeper in England, Paul Robinson's career has waned in the last few years. It's difficult to pick the exact moment when Robbo's fortunes began to turn, but this unfortunate mishap against Croatia didn't help matters.
