Showjumping faces cash shortfall

Britain's dismal showing at the European Show Jumping Championships in Germany last weekend could have a serious knock-on effect.

Having finished ninth out of 18 nations and thereby failed to qualify for next year's Athens Olympics, the poor performance will be analysed by the annual Lottery Funding Committee.

Matt Straker, performance director of the British Equestrian Federation, said: "The annual Lottery funding of £135,000 will now definitely be in doubt."
