Shelford demands more from winners

The signs are good as the Buck Shelford era opens at Vicarage Road this weekend but the new Saracens coach is still not satisfied.

The former New Zealand captain sends his side out at home in the Zurich Premiership for the first time this season on Sunday when they come up against Bath.

Although his team got their campaign off to the perfect start with a 45-30 triumph at Bristol last weekend, Shelford believes they can do even better.

"We won well last week but did not execute a lot of things well," he said. "Execution is where my football starts and finishes."

Saracens start against Bath without French prop Christian Califano, who has a sprained ankle, and England squad flanker Tony Roques, who injured his leg against Bristol. Shelford will not consider the Wales lock Craig Quinnell who is only just coming back from a knee injury, although he did play for the reserves on Monday.

Shelford added: "Our team spirit is very high at the moment and they are a tight and happy side."

Harlequins face European champions Leicester at Welford Road tomorrow and will rest Alex Codling who has a hamstring strain. Karl Rudzki, 22, will take the England lock's place.
