Shane Warne: You're in for Ashes thrashing

Shane Warne has advised England to start winning some Test series before dreaming about regaining the Ashes next summer.

Warne, the great Australian spin bowler, was back in London today to launch his latest book, Shane Warne's Century, which lists his top 100 players during a near 20-year career.

Michael Vaughan, Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen are among those included. But even if those three are firing on all cylinders nine months from now, Warne believes Australia will still be strong enough to retain the Ashes - and maybe repeat their 5-0 triumph of two winters ago.

"Of course," said Warne, who retired from international cricket last year, when asked whether his old team-mates would win next summer.

"I've heard all this stuff about the Ashes. I'd like to see England win something first. They've just won a dead rubber against South Africa and everyone [over here] is saying. 'We're going to win the Ashes.' South Africa won that series 2-1, and really they've only got a couple of batsmen.

"One-day cricket is different and if I was an England supporter I would be excited by that. You're playing pretty good. But with Test cricket, start winning something before the Ashes come along. Start to win some series and get some momentum. That's what happened in 2005."
