Search is on for the man who hit Frisk

European football officials are confident the fan who threw a coin at referee Anders Frisk during Roma's Champions League clash with Dynamo Kiev last night can be identified.

Italian newspapers have published pictures of a man who is accused of throwing a coin at the Swedish official, who left the pitch with his head covered in blood.

The Group B game was abandoned with Kiev leading 1-0 and UEFA spokesman William Gaillard said today: "It looks like a man dressed in black. The Italian newspapers have pictures taken from the TV transmission and they should be able to identify him.

"But that is a matter for the Italian authorities. Our disciplinary committee will deal with the case next Tuesday."

Gaillard said a linesman had picked up the coin which struck Frisk and added: "Unfortunately, we can't take coins from spectators. A coin thrown from 20 to 40 metres can really hurt."

UEFA must now decide whether the match should be replayed.

The incident occurred after Frisk blew for half-time moments after he had sent off Roma defender Phillippe Mexes.
