Eriksson had said he would trim his squad for the trip and the teenagers seemed the most likely to be left behind.
However, Eriksson was sufficiently impressed with them, both in training and in the match , that he decided to include them for the six days in Spain.
Cole was particularly impressive when he switched from right to left midfield against Mexico and that is the one position which remains a problem for an otherwise buoyant England.
Manchester United defender Wes Brown missed the trip with an Achilles tendon injury but Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour, who missed the match against Mexico following a thumb operation, travelled.
Meanwhile, Robbie Fowler feels the confidence level in the squad could not be much higher.
The Liverpool striker, who scored against Mexico, said: "It's a good time for us to come to the boil with the Greece game on the horizon.
"We couldn't have much more confidence and the game last Friday was perfect for us. Confidence does mean a great deal in this game.
"From my point of view, I felt good against Mexico and I'm confident I will score goals at any level."
