Schools Rugby: Shock win for Reading

Reading produced a major upset in the Daily Mail Under 18 Cup on Saturday by beating RGS High Wycombe 19-16 to reach the quarter-finals for the first

Fly half Gareth Duncan kicked three long distance penalties to put them 9-3 up and RGS paid a heavy price for bringing down a maul before half time. After a prop had been sin-binned, Duncan kicked the penalty to the corner and James Britton emerged from a catch and drive with the all-important try, converted by Duncan.

RGS came back with an unconverted try but Duncan landed another penalty to make it 19-11. Reading's magnificent defence against a much bigger side played a major part and despite one breakthrough by RGS for another unconverted try, the Berkshire boys held out to earn a home tie against former winners Campion from Hornchurch.
