Sarries look at Williams

Saracens hope to unveil Francois Pienaar's successor as coach this week.

Leinster's Matt Williams is understood to be the front-runner among contenders to take over from the South African.

"We hope we can put the matter to bed this week," said chief executive Peter Deakin.

If the new man does arrive in the next few days, at least he will inherit a team which returned to winning ways in the Zurich Premiership with a 33-11 defeat of Bath.

Victory at Vicarage Road lifted Saracens into the top eight and was secured by second-half tries from England scrumhalf Kyran Bracken, flanker Kris Chesney and wing Gerald Arasa. Centre Kevin Sorrell kicked 15 points and there was also a drop goal from fly-half and caretaker-coach Tim Horan.

While Saracens eased the pressure on themselves Bath gave a woeful performance and are now deep in trouble. They are only one point above bottom club Leeds and have difficult matches against Gloucester, London Irish and Northampton to come.

"It is a very tough road ahead. I wish there were easy answers but there is a lack of confidence in the side," said Bath team director Michael Foley.
