Samuel Eto’o wasn’t under any pressure, says Gary Cahill

Gary Cahill insists Samuel Eto’o has nothing to prove after a slow start to his career in England.

Eto’o joined Chelsea in August but has struggled for form after spending the last two seasons playing in Russia for Anzhi Makhachkala.

But the Cameroon striker scored twice last night as Chelsea moved to within touching distance of the Champions League knockout stages with a 3-0 win against Schalke.

Eto’o (above) showed his first signs of real quality in a Chelsea shirt with a clinical finish for his second goal capping an impressive all-round performance at Stamford Bridge.

He will start against West Brom on Saturday with Fernando Torres sidelined until after the international break with a thigh injury and team-mate Cahill (below) said: “Now Samuel has found his feet, he is looking sharp and getting goals for us.

“He took his second fantastically and worked hard for the side. He has been on this stage many times so it is great to have him in the squad.

“Samuel set the tempo with the first goal and after that I felt we were in control. He took his second goal like we have seen him do it over the years. It was a great finish.

“He has got nothing to prove but as a player you are always proving something to yourself. He has come to the Premier League for the first time and he wants to perform.”
