McIlroy, who is playing in the Hong Kong Open this week, said today: "I will add on a couple more events to my schedule in America.
"It won't be a drastic change and it certainly doesn't mean I'm going to neglect Europe. I will continue to play on the European Tour like I did this year."
McIlroy, the reigning US Open champion, pointed to his Ryder Cup team-mate, world No1 Luke Donald, as an example of someone who has successfully played both sides of the Atlantic.
"Luke has proved this year that it can be done. He has played on both tours and he heads the money list on both."
