"He was a bit unlucky as a novice last year but we thought he should have a crack at a big handicap. He is a stayer who could be slightly unexposed. The only question is whether he has the class to win the Welsh National."
Silver By Nature's grand dam was Dalkey Sound, who was second in the Scottish National of 1992 to the Peter Scudamore-ridden Captain Dibble.
Dalkey Sound was owned by St Johnstone football club chairman Geoff Brown, who also owns Silver By Nature.
"I don't think he's forgiven me," said Scudamore, who works as assistant to Russell. "Hopefully he will if Lucinda trains him to win a Welsh or Scottish National. He looks as though he's got a decent chance at Chepstow."
