Rusedski: ATP must solve drugs riddle

Greg Rusedski, still coping with the stigma of having tested positive for a banned substance, has revealed another leading tennis player had three positive tests after only taking water to rehydrate himself during matches.

The British No2 tested positive for nandrolone last summer but was cleared by a tribunal in Canada and allowed to continue his career.

At the same time, however, international drug testing officials admit they are having difficulty in finding out what is causing the positive tests for nandrolone.

"We have to find out what this problem is because nobody has a solution," Rusedski said.

"It is obviously contamination. It is mathematically impossibly that all of these players have been taking things.

"It is a big concern for a lot of the players, because we have had one player who has tested positive three times and all he is drinking is water. So we have to figure it out, come to a solution and put it behind us.

"The ATP have to spend more money trying to find out what the problem is and everyone has to become involved because there needs to be some sort of explanation to this and we have not found one yet."

Rusedski hopes to feature in Britain's Davis Cup tie against Austria at the end of September after the US Open.
