Rumoush is a big doubt for York

Marcus Tregoning could bypass the Darley Yorkshire Oaks with exciting filly Rumoush because of fears over the state of the Knavesmire track.

The Lambourn trainer says he will employ a "watching brief" before deciding whether the unlucky Investec Oaks fourth will run in the Group One event at York on 19 August.

Tregoning said: "We haven't decided whether she goes for the Yorkshire Oaks or the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood [31 July]. I'm not favouring one over the other and she is working later this week, so we'll decide after that.

"But to be honest, I've been a little disappointed with the York ground this year. I know they have had drainage work done but I wasn't happy at the last meeting there over the weekend, because they were kicking up clouds of dust. For the time being, we will employ a watching brief.

"At Goodwood, clerk of the course Seamus Buckley and his team always do a fantastic job with the ground and if I was leaning one way or the other, I think the Nassau would be the race."

The ground fears will not be welcome news to connections of Dubai World Cup winner Gloria De Campeao, who is expected to make his British debut in the Juddmonte International on the Knavesmire next month.
