Twickenham seek peace plan after Cup tickets furore

Angry debenture holders at Twickenham are demanding they get priority to buy tickets for the 2015 Rugby World Cup matches at the stadium.

The Rugby Football Union have taken their case up with the International Rugby Board in a bid to ensure that the 2,900 debenture holders get access to the games, which include the final.

Under Rugby World Cup rules, tournament hosts have to ensure no one has a claim on seats with tickets only being bought through the official system.

However, the RFU have raised millions to redevelop the home of English rugby through debenture issues and, at present, a total of 8,000 tickets per match at Twickenham are set aside for debenture holders.

The RFU have received complaints from rugby fans who believed the £7,500 per debenture outlay entitled them to buy tickets for all major games — including the World Cup.

In a bid to head off further anger, Standard Sport understands the RFU have initiated talks with the IRB designed to appease their debenture holders.
