"He'll definitely go for the Ericsson and, if Best Mate comes over, then it won't worry me in the slightest."
Robert Alner is in less of a hurry to take on the very best with his stable stars, but the way Kingscliff and Saturday's Chepstow winner Sir Rembrandt are progressing through the ranks could force the trainer's hand before too long.
Sir Rembrandt has been cut from 12-1 to 7-2 in the sponsors' betting on the Coral Welsh National after his bloodless win in Saturday's Rehearsal Chase at Chepstow, while the runaway Ascot scorer Kingscliff will bid to add to his growing reputation in the next two weeks.
"Sir Rembrandt is A1 after his win on Saturday and you would think the Welsh National would be next," said Alner's wife Sally.
Kingscliff 's target depends on the ground, but valuable handicaps at Cheltenham this weekend - or at Ascot the week after - are both under consideration.
