Ronaldo will sign for Roman

Ronaldo is prepared to join Chelsea this summer, provided Roman Abramovich himself does the asking.

Real Madrid's World Cup striker visited London in January and met Chelsea's incoming chief executive Peter Kenyon and Pini Zahavi, the agent behind many of Abramovich's big-name signings.

A move was discussed, with Chelsea suggesting they would double Ronaldo's £100,000-a-week wages.

But no formal offer was made and, after Chelsea's interest became public, the Brazilian's representatives have only had calls from agents claiming to represent the club. It has all left him unsure whether he is really wanted.

So, according to an adviser, Ronaldo will forget about Chelsea unless he hears directly from Abramovich.

The source said: 'Abramovich never met Ronaldo. Peter Kenyon and Pini Zahavi both talked to him, but there was no definite offer, so he couldn't agree to leave Madrid.

'If Abramovich himself were to make an offer now, that would be a different matter.'

Real were furious when they heard of the London meeting and the Brazilian was heavily fined and publicly reprimanded by his club.

To land him, Chelsea would probably have to break the world transfer record of £47million, set by Real when they bought Zinedine Zidane from Juventus in 2001.
