Richard Hannon keen to give Ryan Moore a helping hand

Leading trainer Richard Hannon said today he will do everything in his power to help Ryan Moore win his fourth jockeys' title.

Current champion Moore, who won his first Epsom Derby on Workforce last month, is 13 winners behind northern-based rider Paul Hanagan, who has had 102 victories so far.

Hannon, who is leading the trainers' table himself after having great successes this season with horses like Canford Cliffs and Dick Turpin, was Moore's former boss before he joined Sir Michael Stoute's powerful Newmarket stable.

He said: "Hanagan is a good rider and he has built up a big lead but Ryan's motto is that 'second sucks' and he'll do everything he can to hold on to his title.

"Ryan always was a grafter and he would often come in for evening stables after he had ridden locally in the afternoon. And, though Richard Hughes is our stable jockey, we will do everything in our power to help Ryan, and we supplied him with seven of his nine winners last week and another at Kempton last night.

"We also provided him with his first Group winner when Galeota won the Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury in 2004, and, while Sir Michael Stoute has first claim on him nowadays, Ryan's is the first name I look for when Hughesie is not available.
