RGS pull off a hair-raising victory

RGS High Wycombe remains the only school to get two teams to Twickenham finals in the same season and both their Under 18s and 15s are in the last 16 again.

If the Bucks school do it again, coach Jon Scourfield may not have much hair left. RGS's U18s are one of those frustrating teams that give coaches nightmares. 'They are a talented bunch but they blow hot and cold and I've had to put up with them since they arrived as 11-yearolds,' joked Scourfield.

'They need a psychologist not a coach.' As U15s, they were one of the favourites to win the Cup but had one of their off days in the quarter-finals, losing to St Paul's, Barnes.

In the fifth round of the U18 Cup last week, a team which has beaten Wellington, Harrow and Whitgift scraped a 13-11 win at Downside after being 11-3 down with 15 minutes left. Captain Chris Record scored the vital try and kicked the points. In the sixth round, they face champions Colston's.

The Bristol school beat them comfortably in October with all their stars in the team but will be shorn of several players because of the Cup rules restricting sixth form imports. Colston's were given a real scare by Truro College last Thursday, when they squeezed through 15-8.

'We have never beaten Colston's at senior level,' said Scourfield, 'but if the real RGS turn up we have a chance.' Scourfield will lose no sleep over the U15s. They took apart last year's beaten finalists, Sherborne, 43-5.
