Rely on mighty Quinn

With tomorrow's jump meetings all falling to the weather, the only horseracing taking place in Britain is on the all-weather surfaces of Lingfield and Southwell. The former stages the most valuable event - the £20,000 Littlewoods Bet Direct Handicap - over a mile and a half on the new Polytrack.

Leading jockey on the sand, Jimmy Quinn, looks to have an outstanding chance on the Ed Dunlop-trained Whaleef, of adding to his tally of points in his quest for the £12,000 prize awarded to the top rider at the end of the all-weather season.

Quinn, who rode Admirals Place to victory in last year's corrresponding event, partners the class horse in the race.

Waheed, who was unraced at two, wore the Godolphin colours at the start of his career, scoring on his debut at Goodwood last June from Big Moment. Moving to Dunlop, he was successful over tomorrow's course and distance in November, beating Lord Pierce and was not disgraced when in his subsequent race over a shorter trip behind the classy Compton Bolter and Reef Diver, the latter having won since.

Back over this 12 furlongs, the son of Darshaan should shine again and reward Quinn with his second success in the race.

Lydia Richards's tough and consistent Brilliant Red - third behind Reef Diver at the Surrey track last month - looks the one to follow the selection home.
