The all-rounder believes the gap can be explained, at least partly, by the experience India's players have gained from the IPL Twenty20 league and he wants England's cricketers to be given the same chance.
Flintoff admitted: "With playing the short form of the game they have learned a lot of new skills and we've been found wanting a little bit.
"There has been a lot of talk about the financial rewards of the IPL but I think players will develop as well."
