Redknapp to fight FA charge

Tottenham captain Jamie Redknapp has vowed to fight any Football Association ban for his horrific tackle on Everton's Tim Cahill.

The FA charged the former Liverpool midfielder with serious foul play after referee Graham Poll only booked the Spurs star during Saturday's victory at Goodison.

Redknapp has fourteen days to respond to the FA's move and if found guilty, he will be suspended for three games as well as the one-match ban he picked up for collecting five bookings this season.

Redknapp immediately apologised to Cahill, who was left fearing damage to his knee ligaments.

Today Redknapp defended his actions saying: "Everyone who knows my game, knows I don't tackle with my left foot. I'm right footed, so naturally I tend to put that leg out first. It was totally unintentional. I was trying to shield the ball from Tim with my left side.

"It looks bad on television but I never set out to hurt anyone."

Scans taken yesterday show Cahill has no long-term damage to his knee and the former Millwall midfielder could be fit for Everton's next Premiership clash in a fortnight.
