Ranieri's views were echoed by captain Marcel Desailly, who went as far as to suggest that Chelsea's prospects would be harmed by another influx of players.
The France defender hopes to stay at the club until his contract expires at the end of next season. He believes they need to sign only three or four players this summer.
Desailly said: "If the chairman decides to change half the team then it'll be another season when we can't expect great things.
"If we change three of four players maximum then we can win something, definitely. Four or five will leave, three or four will come in and the objective must be to win the Premier League."
Ranieri still hopes for a late reprieve, though such sentiments are more likely to represent the views of his lawyers, keen to ensure their client receives £6million in compensation for the termination of his contract.
The Italian was in a bullish mood after his side confirmed the power shift away from Old Trafford with a 1-1 draw in which Ruud van Nistelrooy cancelled out Jesper Gronkjaer's opener, insisting that he will plan for next season until told otherwise.
Ranieri said: "Abramovich and Peter Kenyon know that finishing second is an achievement. We're building a good thing and can continue in this way.
"My stay here is not finished yet and I'd like to carry on. The owner is thinking about it.
"We've built the foundations and now have to start on the first floor.
"The foundations cannot be destroyed. The spirit and character of my players won't change."
