"I am certain that we are going to, in the short term, halt the haemorrhaging and, in the medium term, I expect to see some semblance of pride coming back in the way we carry ourselves.
"We have to demonstrate there is the beginning of a turnaround in West Indies' fortunes.
"The most evident way of that would be the way we carry ourselves and the way the players go out there and perform.
"Most of the problems hinge around the fact that we seem to cave in when the pressure is on." One of the reasons Skerritt gave for resigning was that he has been unable to make "the entire team" fully aware of their obligations on and off the field.
He had been scathing in his criticism of four players - Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Tino Best and Adam Sanford - for joining a party in the Sabina Park stands soon after England's 10-wicket win in Jamaica.
But, according to coach Logie, "discipline has always been a problem" for the West Indies.
The former Test batsman said: "It is not just about this team. It has been all teams in the past.
"We have always had discipline problems . . . of course we were much more successful then." England's task is to make sure West Indies are given no encouragement to claw their way back into the series.
The home side will be lifted if their impressive fast bowler Fidel Edwards proves himself fit to play tomorrow. He missed the Trinidad Test with a back strain after touching 95mph in Jamaica but seems optimistic about making a return here.
Yet whereas Edwards and Best troubled England's batsmen with their pace, Vaughan's bowlers have proved themselves matchwinners twice over - and are hungry to do so again in front of thousands of visiting fans.
Despite the scandalous ticket levy imposed on British fans which has bumped the cost of watching the Kensington Oval Test to well above £300, England will have huge support over the next few days.
Steve Harmison has already been rewarded for capturing 16 wickets by being added to Vaughan's one-day squad, along with Darren Gough.
But the Test series is still to be won - and Harmison and Co can expect a reception fit for heroes if they can get the job done here.
