Mason followed his convincing opening success over Jason Clark at the Circus Tavern by edging out Dave Askew. He said: "I am in the other half of the draw to Phil so I have got a real chance of reaching the final.
"I am not being defeatist but you have to look at it realistically and say that finishing second to Taylor is not a bad week's work."
Standing between Mason and a place in the quarter-finals tonight is world No1 Colin Lloyd, who surprisingly pinched top spot from Taylor by travelling to a minor event in Belgium that most of his rivals ignored.
