Power supply restored as Taylor learns lesson

Phil Taylor began his campaign for a 12th world darts title with a predictable 4-0 destruction of Alex Roy in Purfleet, and then argued that his shock early defeat to Andy Callaby at the World Grand Prix had been a blessing in disguise.

"Callaby did me a big favour in Dublin," said Taylor. "He taught me a big lesson because he brought me down a peg or two. I have stopped all the travelling to exhibitions since then.

"I am up for this and I am a different player to a year ago. I have been practising hard and it has all gone perfectly."

Taylor's next opponent will be old rival Dennis Priestley and 'The Power' added: "Dennis has great experience and will be a tough opponent, but I will be ready for him."

Chris Mason, meanwhile, would happily settle for second spot at the Ladbrokes.com World Championship, as long as his conqueror in the final was Taylor.

The 35-year-old from Bristol is contesting only his second major tournament since spending more than a year in prison.
