The American said: "Darren might not run well in meetings during the season but those are nothing but preparations.
"When it comes to championships that guy is always ready to compete."
Powell, who clocked the fastest time in the heats in Paris last year before the disqualification, has been showing immense composure in Athens. He is not afraid of being the favourite.
He said: "Everyone has been saying that. I'm not going to object. Last year in Paris was a very disappointing incident. I'm trying to put that behind me and show the world what I could have done in Paris."
