Postiga: I'll make a success of it at the Lane

The 21-year-old said: "First of all I want to say that rumours suggesting I want to leave are not true. At this moment it is difficult for me to adapt at Tottenham because I have never been outside my own country before.

"So my adaptation is difficult but given time, things will improve for me. That is why my girlfriend Filipa being here is very important for me because she is my company here. It would have been very difficult if she had not come over with me. I would have been on my own.

"The fact I have not scored yet does not play on my mind. I hope to score for the club and I want to make it clear I do not feel any pressure on me.

"If Tottenham play well and win the game, that is more important for me. Life is very different for me in England compared to Portugal, both the customs and the people. The biggest thing I've found is that at five o'clock in this country, all shops close. In Portugal they stay open until eight.

"There are differences on the pitch. Over here it is more physical and quicker. Back home, it is slower. I need to play for a few games to get used to game here. I need to change my game a little-bit and I know that because Tottenham paid a lot of money for me.

"When players are on the bench they are unhappy because they are not playing in the first team. This is normal. All players want to play and so do I."

Postiga faced a managerial change within six games of his Premiership career after Glenn Hoddle was axed and David Pleat installed as caretaker.

Yet he has approached the changes in a philosophical way and thinks that Pleat has been good for the squad. He is also proud of the song Spurs fans sing about him. This is belted out to the same tune as the Patrick Vieira ditty is for Arsenal. "Ohhh Postiga, Ohhh Postiga, he comes from Por-tu-gal, he hates the Ar-sen-al, Ohhh Postiga, Ohhh Postiga." "David is a fantastic coach," he said. "He speaks very well to the players and that is very important for us as a group.

"I've not had the luck in games I've played in so far but maybe it will change soon. I will be happy to score a goal that goes in off my knee. The supporters have been fantastic to me. They shout my name and sing their song.

"I'm very proud about the song they have made up about me but I let them speak - I am saying nothing about Arsenal. It is a fantastic song and makes me feel very good inside. All the players want a song about them. It is very important for me to have that."

Postiga is hoping he can starting hitting the goal trail soon in order to stake a claim for a place in the Portuguese squad for next year's European Championships in his homeland.

But while he has one eye on that competition, he would rather become a Premiership hit with Spurs first. He added: "Before thinking about the European Championships, I have to succeed in securing my place at Tottenham.

"Then I can think about being selected by the coach of the Portuguese team."
