Helder Postiga will quit Spurs to return to FC Porto even though new coach Jacques Santini wants him to stay.

As part of the deal, Tottenham will bring in Lithuanian striker Edgaras Jankauskas, who has been at Porto for a season.

The 28-year-old is a much travelled striker. As well as playing 36 times for his national side, scoring five times, he has played for clubs in Russia, Belgium and Spain.

Postiga had talks with the Porto's president yesterday and the deal will end the striker's White Hart Lane misery. He will return to his former club just a year after Spurs splashed out £6.25million on the 21-year-old, who scored against England in Euro 2004.

Jankauskas's arrival will put further pressure on Fredi Kanoute, who was sold by Santini when he was director of football at Lyon and never picked him for the French squad while in charge of the international side. Spurs declined to comment on reports that Fulham are ready to let Sean Davis join them. According to reports, Fulham have turned down a £2m bid and want £3m.

Brazil star Ronaldo has expressed interested in joining his mentor Frank Arnesen, who took him to PSV Einhoven a decade ago, at Spurs. Ronaldo said: "He has reignited my interest in playing in England."
