Pleat: Hoddle war is over

David Pleat today insisted the war of words between him and Glenn Hoddle was now over.

Tottenham's acting manager was accused of taking another swipe at sacked Hoddle after claiming Spurs would have lost to Middlesbrough a month ago.

They were held to a goalless draw at White Hart Lane by Boro but Pleat maintained he was talking about the spirit that has emerged since taking over five weeks ago and his comments should not be interpreted as a dig at the club's former boss.

The pair were at the centre of a public slanging match last week, with Hoddle responding to remarks about his tenure made by the director of football by claiming Pleat prevented him from doing his job and could not work with anyone else.

Pleat, tipped to be given the job until the end of the season, said: "The matter is closed. My conscience is clear. Much has happened in the last 35 days, bearing in mind the difficulties and uncertainties faced when a club has a change of management."

Paul Konchesky, Darren Anderton and Mauricio Taricco are injury doubts for Spurs ahead of their Carling Cup clash with West Ham on Wednesday.
