Peace breaks out for Mick

Mick McCarthy has ended his confrontation with FIFA over his team's facilities in Seoul. The Irish manager moved their training-base in the South Korean capital this afternoon after rejecting FIFA's original venue.

Ireland will now prepare for Sunday's second round game against Spain at a military camp at Sanggokdong, just outside Seoul.

"We have sorted out all our differences with FIFA on the issue of the training ground," insisted the Irish manager at his first official press conference since Spain emerged as the Republic's opponents in Suwon.

"They had three different venues available to us here in Seoul and the one they wanted us to use was not good enough. The pitch was not up to the standard that we require and one of the other venues is being used by Turkey.

"I had to look elsewhere and I am more than happy with the facilities available to us now, on and off the field. I am just annoyed that once again I am talking about non-football issues at a time when we should all be looking forward to the game with Spain and celebrating the fact that we are now in the last 16 at the World Cup finals.

"I wish people would concentrate on what we have achieved on the field. What happens off it should not be of any concern so close to a match of this magnitude."

Ireland have some minor injury worries ahead of Sunday's game. Charlton goalkeeper Dean Kiely swapped training for a dentist's chair as he went to have a tooth removed.

Steve Staunton (thigh), Robbie Keane ( groin), Kevin Kilbane (ankle) and Damien Duff (knee) were all told to sit out the 90 minute session as a precaution. "I am sure they will all be fine for Sunday," insisted McCarthy. "I expect to have a full fit squad available for selection."

As Ireland returned to training following their Group E campaign, Spanish boss Jose Antonio Camacho ordered his players to rest after yesterday's win against South Africa booked their date with McCarthy's team.

"We have had a hard group campaign and now we need to prepare mentally and physically for the game against Ireland," said Camacho.
