Pardew in Reading peace bid

Alan Pardew will shake hands with Reading chairman John Madejski tomorrow and put their bitter row behind them.

The West Ham manager returns to his old club for the first time since leaving under a cloud last September and is expecting a tough time.

Reading fans are still angry about his departure and Madejski's comments at the time will have fuelled their feelings.

The chairman claimed Pardew acted badly and could not even bring himself to wish the manager good luck. He forced him to serve a month's gardening leave and negotiated £380,000 compensation from West Ham after threatening legal action.

But the Reading chairman is now ready to move on and said today: "These things cannot go on forever. There is no point in going over old ground. I will go down as normal before the game to see the team. If I see Alan, I see him. I'll say hello and shake his hand."

Pardew maintains that he acted properly after Reading blocked him from talking to West Ham and that resigning was the only option if he was to get the opportunity to take over at a bigger club.
