He said: "The bid from Portsmouth was rejected and there is a bid on the table which is higher and closer to our valuation. Michael is a top-class player and I wanted him to stay but he would not sign a new contract. Whether he plays on Saturday at Leicester depends on how he feels.
"We still have until the end of August to do a deal and we are willing to wait until we get the offer we want."
