Steinle will be looking to put the experience of last year's Olympic Games behind him at this year's World Championships. In Sydney he suffered stomach cramps and had to settle for a disappointing 56th place.
El Mouaziz won the men's elite race to add to his 1999 victory in a time of 2:07:11 ahead of Kenya's Paul Tergat who produced a superb performance to finish second in a time of 2:08:15 on his debut. Last year's winner Antonio Pinto of Portugal was third.
In the women's race Ethiopia's Deratu Tulu won her first London Marathon in a time of 2:23:57, ahead of Russian Svetlana Zakharova and 1999 winner Joyce Chepchumba, from Kenya.
Britain's Paula Radcliffe, the world half-marathon and cross-country champion, confirmed today she will make her eagerly awaited Flora London Marathon debut in next year's race.
