Jenson Button aims for McLaren bounce back

"Going into the summer break we're not too bad, and with a few little updates for Spa we should be looking at a much better result, fighting further forward.

"I know in Hungary our race was not with the guys ahead, like Lewis (Hamilton), Sebastian (Vettel) and Romain Grosjean, but we had a go.

"For a while Sebastian couldn't get past me, and it was really good fun, I enjoyed racing with the guys at the front.

"Our result was never going to be up there, but we tried our best, and you never know what can happen in a situation where you are doing one less stop than other people.

"So Sunday was a good day, and I'm already looking forward to the next race (Belgian Grand Prix on August 25)."

That is now in just under four weeks, a period of time that includes a mandatory factory shutdown for a fortnight when no work can be undertaken on the cars.

Before the race in Hungary Button expressed his belief McLaren would win a race again before the end of the season.

After the event he sees no reason to change his point of view, and that Spa should at least see the team end their podium drought this campaign.

"There are new bits that will be on the car for Spa, and I'm sure there will be more we can do in the week when we can work on the car," added Button.

"Spa is a low downforce circuit, and what we already have on the car will suit Spa more than here.

"I still say we should be able to fight for a podium. We might get there and it be a definite no no, but it's what I'm aiming for."

Generally regarded as a fitness freak, Button is planning to use the break a little more leisurely than he has done in the past.

"I've a couple of weeks' holiday with my lady (model girlfriend Jessica Michibata) somewhere in Europe - I'm not saying any more," said Button.

"But I won't be training flat out every day. Instead I'm going to back off for a few days. I feel I need that."
