L'Aventure finished best of all for fourth in the Welsh National, but she's a moody customer and prone to losing her place at crucial points in a race. Merchants Friend is a suspect jumper who has been hiked 10lb in the weights for winning a relatively soft race at Haydock, while Stormez stays forever but is unlikely to relish the fact that Warwick has five fences in quick succession which have to be jumped in just over half a minute at racing pace.
The revitalised Historic and the progressive Grattan Lodge and Baron Windrush have more to recommend them, while Kelami is the one to have a saver on given how sweetly he was travelling when the fourth last fence intervened at Cheltenham last month.
However, Wain Mountain looks the value call at around 10-1. He's well treated on his Chepstow form and his sound jumping will be a big asset when things start to get tough on the final circuit.
The Tote are also digging deep into their sponsorship kitty at Kempton, where the Totesport Lanzarote Hurdle headlines a card which ought to throw up several clues for the Cheltenham Festival.
Martin Pipe landed last Saturday's big Sandown handicap hurdle with Tamarinbleu, and punters plainly feel he can repeat the dose judged on the support for Royal Hector this week.
Good luck to you if you managed to snap up the 6-1 offered on Monday, as Royal Hector has looked a different horse since joining Pipe and completed a December fivetimer in fine style at Haydock last time out.
He's sure to go well again, but the handicapper is slowly getting to grips with him and those looking for an alternative at much longer odds might find it worth keeping an eye on Green Tango.
Granted, Henry Daly's chestnut finished well held in a valuable handicap at Sandown last time, but the holding ground seemed to stretch his stamina on that notably stiff track.
He's much better judged on his earlier success at Newbury, where he produced an impressive turn of finishing speed after travelling very smoothly, and with the ground drying out Green Tango looks set to have conditions very much in his favour.
