O'Brien and Godolphin dominate classic lists

All the leading contenders for both the Sagitta 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas stood their ground at the first forfeit stage, it was revealed today.

Irish handler Aidan O'Brien and Sheikh Mohammed's global operation, Godolphin, dominate the Newmarket colts' classic, with eight and five entries respectively among a remaining total of 33 horses.

Ante-post market moves indicate Middle Park Stakes winner, Minardi, is the O'Brien first string. Frankie Dettori's booking for ante-post favourite, Tobougg, rather than riding in the Kentucky Derby the same day has hardened support for the Godolphin colt. Stable companion, Rumpold, is also a likely runner but West Order is more likely to tackle the Irish 2,000 Guineas on 26 May.

Winter favourite Nayef and the Richard Hannontrained Tamburlaine remain on course for the Saturday week classic, despite disappointing in last week's trials.

The latter's stablemate, Craven winner King's Ironbridge, and Greenham victor, Munir, are also present, along with just one French-trained entry, Andre Fabre's Amiwain.

In the 1,000 Guineas, the 28 fillies confirmed include Norwegian-trained challenger Pretty Girl, who finished runner up in last year's Tattersalls Houghton Sales Stakes, and two French contenders, Stunning and Wooden Doll, both trained by Criquette Head-Maarek.
