Northampton trust their young guns

So far, so good at the school which produced England's World Cup hooker Steve Thompson and where rugby is flourishing. The latest plan is to install floodlights on the first team pitch. Next up at home in the fourth round are King Edward's, Birmingham who have had a lean time in the competition in recent seasons. But they have been scoring points for fun too, winning 61-0 at home to Queen Marys, Walsall and winning 32-0 at Bablake.

Only one of the big guns in the U18 Cup have been silenced so far. Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield had been hoping to improve on a miserable time in the past few seasons but were second best to Prince Henry's, the Vase holders, losing 27-6 at Otley.

Lurking in Prince Henry's section of the draw are the unbeaten Lymm High School team and there is a good chance the 2004 Vase winners could meet the 2000 champions in the fifth round.

Old rivals RGS Newcastle and Durham face each other in the fourth round after comfortable wins but champions Colstons were given a tough test by Hartpury College and the seven-times champions may be vulnerable for once.
