No charge for Tendulkar invader

The MCC is considering a private prosecution of the spectator who invaded the pitch at Lord's after the police released him without charge.

The 24-year-old Australian ran on to the Lord's pitch and accompanied Sachin Tendulkar towards the pavilion after the Indian batsman was out yesterday. Not one steward moved to intercept the invader, who proceeded to accompany Tendulkar towards the pavilion before bounding up the steps and finally being detained near the Long Room.

The man, who was later handed over to the police, seemingly wanted nothing more than a few moments of fame.

Marylebone police contemplated charging him with aggravated trespass but dropped the charges and released him at 1am. An MCC spokesman said: "We are actively considering a private prosecution."

Tendulkar received a full apology today for the incident that has again made player safety an urgent issue.
