"As soon as I mishit a ball, my ligaments were kicking in to try to control the racquet head and it was also really sore.
"I haven't pulled anything, just sprained it a bit. Obviously, it's not terrible but it's just too sore to try to play a match.
"I wasn't going to damage it further by playing today but it would have prolonged the time it was going to be painful.
"If I played, I still think I would have been okay to play Wimbledon. There's no point going on the court feeling 50 per cent."
The British No1 missed Wimbledon last summer while recovering from a serious wrist injury and he is desperate to appear on the most famous grass courts in the world.
The groin and neck problems he suffered while slipping on the greasy court during the Gulbis match did not inhibit him in his practice today.
He added: "My neck's a little bit stiff, but everything's fine."
Roddick, the title-holder at Queen's, was able to walk straight into a semi-final against world No2 Rafael Nadal, of Spain, who beat Croatia's Ivo Karlovic after all three sets went to tie-breaks.
