Papineau reopposes again tomorrow and is clearly on the upgrade, but whether he will stay two-and-a-half miles is a moot point and, in any case, he will be 7lb worse off with Mr Dinos this time around.
The Irish challenger Vinnie Roe has fewer stamina doubts after going down narrowly in this race two years ago and, provided he recovers from a slight muscle problem, his toughness and consistency will make him a danger to all.
Leading French stayer Westerner is another who looks bound to put up a bold showing, while Brian Boru is a fascinating dark horse now that he steps up to an extreme distance for the first time.
Former dual Gold Cup winner Royal Rebel and the Japanese challenger Ingrandire add further spice to what should be a memorable contest, but Mr Dinos looks by far the safest bet.
The way he bowed his head for Kieren Fallon when things got tough last year was one of the abiding memories of the meeting and, with similar conditions due tomorrow, he looks all set to repeat the dose.
Fallon has another good ride in the Ribblesdale Stakes aboard Sir Michael Stoute's Quiff, who ran out a comfortable winner of a useful maiden at Salisbury on her reappearance. Rave Reviews and Sahool are also on the up, but this looks best left to Punctilious.
Admittedly, this Godolphin filly was a shade disappointing when only third behind Ouija Board in the Oaks two weeks ago, but she was up against a very good filly there on a track that didn't seem to suit her strong galloping style.
Her earlier form, including a fine effort in the Fillies' Mile on this course and a runaway win in the Musidora Stakes at York, is by far the best on show and she is worth another chance tomorrow.
