Moyes is under no illusions

David Moyes is in for a busy summer, irrespective of whether Everton salvage an InterToto Cup place from another season of frustration and failure. Teenage striker Nick Chadwick's back-heeled equaliser for his third goal in five games may have provided a glimmer of encouragement for the Everton manager. But the way his side were on the back foot can only have reinforced his misgivings about the challenge he inherited from Walter Smith.

Everton were booed off at the end and Moyes admitted he had taken on a mammoth task as he said: 'I knew what I was letting myself in for from the moment I arrived, but days like this certainly don't make it appear any easier.' Blackburn went ahead when Paul Gerrard got nowhere near David Dunn's cross and Matt Jansen nipped in front of him to head home.

Then the keeper found Damien Duff's 25-yard drive too hot to handle and Andy Cole stooped to head the winner.
