Mourinho says that Terry's all gold

Jose Mourinho insists that John Terry "deserves every penny" of his record new contract thought to be worth an estimated £22.5million.

Terry, who skippered Chelsea to their 2-0 Carling Cup win at Newcastle that sets up a quarterfinal-with Fulham, this week became the highest-paid player in Chelsea's history with his new five-year deal believed to earn the 24-year-old around £90,000-a-week.

Mourinho said: "He is the type of person who deserves every coin. He is fantastic for the atmosphere of the team. He works a lot, is ready for anything and is a good leader. A top player.

"John Terry is special for our club because he is a Chelsea boy, he grew up in the area and is such a big influence in the dressing-room."
