Mourinho in for the long haul

Jose Mourinho today gave Chelsea another boost when he revealed that he wants his longterm future to be at Stamford Bridge.

As captain John Terry signed a new five-year contract, Mourinho revealed that he hopes to emulate Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger by staying at Chelsea for many years to come.

Mourinho has had four different clubs in his first four years in management but after a turbulent start to his career wants to establish a Ferguson-style dynasty at Stamford Bridge.

The former Porto coach signed a four-year contract at the club last summer and, after guiding Chelsea to the top of the Premiership and through to the second stage of the Champions League in his first five months in charge, is already thinking of the future. He said: "I'm so happy with English football, my players and the people that surround me at the club that I want to be here at Chelsea for many, many years."

Terry said he wants to stay at Chelsea for the rest of his career after signing a contract extension yesterday. The England defender only signed his previous contract 18 months ago, but after being named club captain by Mourinho has been rewarded with a new contract that runs to 2009.

Terry said: "I want to be here for the rest of my career. The manager is a key figure. He's made me club captain and I want to stay here and play for him." Meanwhile, Adrian Mutu has claimed his dispute with Mourinho did not arise from what the Romanian calls his "busy private life" but from his determination to play for his country.
