Mourinho dedicates win to Roman

Jose Mourinho today dedicated Chelsea's progression to the Carling Cup final as his personal gift to Roman Abramovich.

The Russian billionaire has invested over £350million in the west London club, including £200m on new players, and will receive his first tangible reward when Chelsea face Liverpool in the Millennium Stadium on 27 February.

The teetotal Abramovich was sprayed with champagne in the visitors dressing room following last night's 2-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, but could soon have more reason to celebrate as Chelsea remain on course for an unprecedented quadruple of four trophies in one season.

Mourinho said: "Everyone in the group was speaking about my birthday gift, but this is my gift for every player, the supporters and for Roman. He's given a lot to the club and it's the first time he gets the real good feeling of being in a final. It's a great feeling and I prefer to share it with all of them.

"I've spoken to Roman and he's very happy but he shouldn't go into the dressing room. He went in there and had a shower of champagne so next time he will think twice."

Chelsea's players insist they can make history by winning all three domestic trophies and the Champions League, but Mourinho is more circumspect. The Portuguese coach's priority is to secure Chelsea's first league title in 50 years and believes last night's win will provide a huge boost to their Premiership campaign.
