Millwall said: "The statement issued on behalf of Cahill by SFX beggars belief. The facts are that Tim asked both manager Dennis Wise and his predecessor, Mark McGhee, for a move. The agents themselves have spoken to Paphitis on numerous occasions indicating that their client wanted to leave.
"They also confirmed that they had spoken to two other clubs, namely Everton and Aston Villa, about the possibility of a move for Tim.
"At no point have Tim's agents given the slightest indication their client would be prepared to sit down with Millwall and talk about a new contract. Any suggestion that he might be 'frozen out' of the first team as a consequence would be preposterous.
"If the circumstances have changed and Cahill is ready and willing to sit down and talk realistically about a contract extension then we would be delighted to do so."
