Michael Bell's still hoping he can cut it

Michael Bell is hoping Coordinated Cut can redeem a once lofty reputation in Sunday's Irish Derby at the Curragh.

Coordinated Cut was ante-post favourite for the Investec Derby last autumn after a superb debut victory at Doncaster but has won just one race this term - on his seasonal debut over a mile and a quarter at Newmarket.

He was subsequently third in the Dante Stakes at York and seventh at Epsom, on his first try at a mile and a half, when almost 13 lengths behind Workforce. But Coordinated Cut has been pleasing the Newmarket trainer in the build-up to the Group 1 test.

Bell said: "He's in good form and Jamie Spencer will ride. I was a little disappointed with him at Epsom but I hope we see a better horse on a more conventional track."

Meanwhile, Bell also warned that quick ground could rule Sariska out of challenging Derby winner Workforce in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot next month.

He said: "Everything is geared towards the Prix de l'Arc De Triomphe."
