When it was first mooted, McEnroe seemed quite keen on the idea, declaring that he would do it for a straight fee of $1 million if their respective agents got together to negotiate the deal.
But today he was scathing about any such match, declaring that it will never happen.
"I have been approached many times about matches like this over the years against Venus or Steffi Graf or Martina Navratilova," he said.
"But the only reason I have ever discussed it in public is because I have been asked about it. I never raise the idea myself. It simply doesn't interest me."
