Murray was particularly pleased with the way he bounced back from Montreal, beating the likes of David Nalbandian and Mardy Fish on his way to the title in Ohio.
He broke Djokovic in the opening game, and although the Serb hit back to level at 3-3, Murray simply upped the tempo to restore his advantage by breaking for a 4-3 lead.
The Scot duly served it out to claim the set before Djokovic had to call for the trainer and doctor.
And it was quickly apparent the end was near when Murray broke Djokovic twice to establish a 3-0 second-set advantage, with his opponent then calling it a day.
"It was really a good week after I struggled last week," Murray said.
"I didn't drop a set and beat some very good players from pretty much the first round onwards.
"Against Nalbandian who I started off against it was tough, and then Mardy was playing really good tennis going into the semis."
Djokovic's injury could have serious ramifications for the Serb as he attempts to land his third grand slam crown of 2011 at the US Open.
However, the world number one is hopeful he will recover in time for Flushing Meadows.
"There is no good loss, that's for sure," he said.
"But the good thing is that there is a week, eight days [before] the start of the US Open. So I think that's enough time for me to get ready."
